Blue Faery Award Guidelines & Instructions

AWARD DESCRIPTION

The Blue Faery Award for Excellence in Liver Cancer Research (hereafter "BFA") has been designed as an annual award to recognize superior liver cancer research. Specifically, based on peer-reviewed publications from those years, we wish to honor research that advances scientific knowledge in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, or understanding of liver cancer in the two prior calendar years. Also, we will consider new research that focuses explicitly on liver cancer. Funds must be used for non-administrative research-associated costs except for graduate student assistant (GSA) salaries.

The award amount varies depending on funding. In 2024, it was 25,000 USD. Every recipient receives a commemorative plaque to celebrate their achievement.

ELIGIBILITY

Each applicant for the Blue Faery Award must meet specific eligibility criteria.

  • Applicants must have conducted research within the past two calendar years and/or be conducting new exploratory research focusing on the various areas of primary liver cancer, specifically hepatocellular carcinoma.

  • Applicants must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree awarded before the submission deadline (January 31, 2025).

  • Applicants must be employed by a non-profit institution including, but not limited to, universities and research hospitals. Any applicant working for Industry (e.g., pharmaceutical, biotech, medtech) is ineligible.

  • Applicants may receive an award no more than once every three calendar years.

  • Applicants may be receiving support from other organizations.

  • Applicants need not be United States citizens.

  • Applicants who are current or previous volunteers for Blue Faery are eligible.

APPLICATION

The BFA application process is short and straightforward to encourage application submissions. Each applicant needs to apply online by 11:59 PM PST on January 31 of the following year. Note: We no longer accept snail mail or email admissions.
